5 important things to know about Budapest
I contacted my favorite bar/ruin pub Szimpla Kert in Budapest about publishing this following info on my blog. I never received any response, and this info was free on their paper guide, so, here you go. I would love to get this kind of information when I first go to a city, information provided by Szimpla.
1. It is forbidden to drink alcohol, urinate or make loud noise on the streets. The penalty starts from 30,000 HUF.
2. Ticket control on public transport in Hungary is done by people. The controllers can appear anywhere at any time - always have a valid ticket or a season ticket. Single tickets must be validated by putting them into a ticket machine. The penalty is 6000 HUF.
3. Smoking is forbidden in all enclosed places and in within a 5 meter radius of their entrances as well as public transport stations (also bus and tram stops) and on trains.
4. If you need a taxi, always call one by phone - even if you are standing right next to one!
(A list of taxi companies and numbers you can check from here. The country code is 00, or + and 36)
5. It is easier to pay in HUF.

ps. This is a well thought article about Budapest and also Szimpla Kert.
