Travel tips for Ladies #1

Thanks to Lunette.com, (Tacky) photo manipulation by MissMureena.

Today is the International Women's Day and I decided to start a new series of travel tips, most of my tips are practical and sustainable, for women of course. I am not saying that men are not allowed read this, but some of this post might be less interesting for the male population.

Today I am presenting you the 1st thing I cannot travel without; the menstrual cup.

All the way since 2005 this thing has been my loyal travel companion through India, Borneo jungle, central European big cities and mighty forests of Finland. Works better (even with heavy flow) than ANY other method used for menstruation, and the best par t- you can use it years and it leaves no trash behind. During this time I have bought only 4 cups, and one of them I lost. The amount of trash created by non decaying plastic pads (and tampons) is increasing to beyond maximum, all taken to trash dumps and creating a bio- hazard also to everyone in that process... not to mention undeveloped countries where picking trash at the dump sites can be an income to many kids and families. Also you can do something about it, think twice of your own menstrual habits!

The use of a menstrual cup is simple and the internet will fill your info needs, just search with the word. I am never going back to tampons and I am sad because I was not introduced to this invention earlier. I am using LUNETTE, which is a Finnish brand (of course I need to support my own country) and they have now the cups in multiple colors, and a web shop that delivers the products all over the world.

The cleaning is also easy on the road when you have water, but if not and you worry about microbes, you can use the alcohol that is used for hand cleaning (or local hard alcohol of course) but be sure to rinse alcohol off before use. A sustainable way to clean the cup and get rid of unwanted odors is vinegar. Leave the cup in a glass filled with water and vinegar (half/half). The unwanted stains you can get off rubbing with basic baking soda.

And at last, a link to a great blog review about the same thing by A little adrift.

Miss Mureena recommends! Enjoy your travels, sister!
